college students across the country are having difficulty pursuing their education. one in four women will be sexually assaulted. students -- male and female, straight and lgbtq -- are harassed, stalked, sexually assaulted, and raped.
it's a difficult problem. 90 percent of rapes are committed by serial offenders. about 85 percent of the time the perpetrator knows the woman. but there are tools, even beyond criminal enforcement by the police.
title ix of the education amendments and the clery act protect the (civil) right to learn in environments free from harassment and violence. this includes proactive approach to creating a nondiscriminatory campus, and accommodations and justice for survivors. over 100 schools are being investigated for violations of title ix. many colleges are failing to live up to their responsibilities to students.
you can change that. high school students (and their parents) are sought after by colleges who improved campus food, housing and facilities to better recruit you. let them know you value you place on your safety. ask them questions.
